being home: Ruthie Lindsey's Home Essentials 1. Personalize your space. Adding a personalized element to my space is probably the most important home essential to me. My grandmother collected milk-glass and my mom gave me her collection. These pieces are so special to me and I've added to her collection. I never knew my grandmother, but I'm told I got my creativity from her. She's my namesake. I also love collecting vases and copper. I've acquired these vintage pieces over time from antique malls, flea markets, garage sales etc. (The mugs are from Beam and Anchor in Portland) I display my collection on old barn wood shelves in my kitchen. 2. Making my home feel as welcoming and homey as possible is a huge priority to me. I like to find out what my friends and guests like to drink and have it available whenever they come over. 3. Pieces that keep me connected to my home and heritage. This coffee table was one of the last gifts my papa gave me before he passed. He had it made for me with wood from an abandoned shack in Louisiana, my home state. The bowl is filled to the brim with old pictures of people and moments I love. That's my beautiful mama on the top. People are more likely to flip through photos when they are sitting out. I also love having yummy smelling candles burning in my home at all times. One of my favorite candles was made by a dear friend, Travis, who owns Manready Mercantile. 4. Even your restroom can be a place to display pieces which are special to you. The restroom can be beautiful and functional. I try to decorate with pieces that have a story and mean something to me. Every item on these shelves tells a story. The R was a house warming gift from my precious friend, James, of Handy Andy Productions. Since I love giving and receiving personalized gifts, this letter meant so much to me. I love my wooden initial! James finished it off with copper nails because he knows how much I like copper! 5. Having a portable workspace.I am self employed so i carry my 'office' in my backpack! Early mornings and late nights, my office is usually my bed. My backpack is stocked with a moleskin notebook, my glasses, macbook, stationery (because handwritten letters are my favorite) and chocolate (I eat chocolate after every meal). home photos by: Sionnie Lafollette headshot by: Theron Humphrey + to learn more about Ruthie Lindsey visit her website here & Instagram here.
